Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin

You need a double stroller to take your twins from A to B. Our range includes twin prams as well as buggies that are able to be set up in different ways to suit your needs.

Choose a stroller which can fold in one step, and easily put into your car. You could also opt for a lighter design, especially if you're tackling busy high streets.

Side-by-Side

This is the most common double pushchair. It usually seats two children side by side. They tend to be bigger than single pushchairs. This can make them less able to maneuver on the footpaths. It may also be difficult to navigate between kerbs when the car seat is in place. However the extra width does mean that they're usually more comfortable to maneuver through doorways and are more evenly distributed making them easier on your back.

They can be used as twin prams from the beginning and a lot of models can be used with a carrycot or 2 car seats. Some models can be converted to a single mode with a basket to the side (like the Cybex Venus).

One of the most impressive examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to place the rear seat and carrycot side by side. This creates a totally enclosed space for twins, and is perfect for infants. This pram is also equipped with a couple of really cool accessories, including newborn cocoons that can be attached to the front or back (for twin-facing prams) or facing forwards (for a normal single). It is not as lightweight as some other options however it's very cleverly created.

Cybex is known for its ingenuity, and this single-to-double pushchair is no different. The clever frame can be expanded to take two seats and you can use it as a twin right from birth with the addition of two newborn cocoons (PS59 each) that provide enclosed, lie-flat areas for infants. It can also be used as an individual mode with only one child, thanks to a large shopping basket that sits behind the seat. And it comes with rear and front suspensions to take on bumps and uneven surfaces more easily. Our reviewers selected this car as their top choice.

Available in a variety fashionable colors.

Tandem

If you're planning to have twins, you need a tandem pushchair that permits the children to sit side by side so that they can see each one another. They are perfect for visiting the zoo as the children can look at the animals together. These are also great for parents who want to keep an eye on their toddler and baby at the same time.

Some tandem pushchairs are incredibly flexible, as they can be converted to single mode. This is especially useful for families with more than two children (or if your eldest child doesn't require an extra buggy). This will save you from having to store a buggy empty which can be expensive.

The Cybex Venus, for example can be used in double or mono mode. Its frame expands to allow for an additional seat. It's not the lightest of pushchairs however it does come with an enormous basket that can be set behind the front seat in double mode, or at the back if in mono mode. The seats can be set up in a way that they face each opposite or higher up to be able to see what each is doing.

Other double tandem pushchairs like the Joolz Geo 3 can seat one on top of the other or side-by-side. They have a sleek, compact strollers frame that makes them easier to maneuver through doorways and aisles of supermarkets, and some models can be used as a jogging stroller or on rough terrain, thanks to a four-wheel suspension and wide rear wheels.

Another benefit of a tandem pushchair is that it can often use two carrycots or a car seat, and buggy seat. This allows you to build a travel system right from the outset and save money on additional purchases. It's worth remembering, however, that tandems are heavier and longer than single pushchairs and are less stable when as you go over uneven surfaces. These pushchairs also need to be dismantled to fit in cars.
