The sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are different pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, as i believe that i've eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is going bad and requires replacement audi car key. The good news is they are very affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at a Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi a3 key replacement's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a standard part that is found across the audi tt key fob 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
