The legitimacy of bridgerweight as an official boxing weight class has been under the spotlight since its inception in 2020. Only one world governing body, the WBC, recognise the 200 to 224 pounds division as they formed it themselves. The division is named after Bridger Walker, a young boy who saved his sister from being attacked by a stray dog and sustained serious injuries as a result.

There are now four major sanctioning bodies in professional boxing. The official rules and regulations of the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF), and World Boxing Organization (WBO) all recognize each other in their rankings and title unification rules. On the other hand, some fighters strategically opt to move up in weight class to avoid impending challenges.

Hiroto Kyoguchi is the boxer that The Ring considers to be the greatest in the light flyweight class. The division has had a number of excellent boxers over the years. It is easy to understand why this is the case given that the Japanese boxer has never been defeated in his professional career and currently holds the WBA belt. His primary adversaries are Masamichi Yabuki, Felix Alvarado, and Jonathan Gonzalez, who have titles from the WBO and IBF respectively (WBC). These other boxers have been defeated in at least one of their matches, while Kyoguchi has not. In addition to this, Kyoguchi has accomplished this feat while successfully protecting his title 3 times.

Hawa Singh, born on (16 December 1937) was a boxer who dominated heavyweight category boxing in the 1960s. The boxer won consecutive Asian games, which happened in 1966 and 1970, and before that, he won 11 successive National championships starting from 1962. After retirement, he took up coaching in boxing, many of the boxers training under him went on to represent India, including 2008 Olympic medallist Vijender Singh. He was awarded the Dronacharya award in 1999 for his excellence in coaching.

During the 19th and again at the beginning of the 20th century, the popularity of boxing brought about the formation of weight divisions other than the heavyweight class to eliminate the handicap of smaller contestants’ having to concede excessive weight to their opponents. Some of these weight divisions originated in the United States, others in Great Britain.

In 2007, The Ring was acquired by the owners of fight promoter Golden Boy Promotions, which has publicized The Ring's world championships when they are at stake in fights it promotes (such as Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr. in 2008). Since 2012, to reduce the number of vacant titles, The Ring allows fights between a number one or two contender; or alternatively a number three, four, or five contender to fill a vacant title. In another bout, Robeisy Ramirez dominated Isaac Dogboe by a unanimous decision to win the WBO featherweight title. Ramirez, a Cuban Olympic gold medalist in 2016, lost his professional debut but has won 12 consecutive fights since. He moves up one spot to 126 pounds.
